Cae Hir Garden of Surprises West Wales

Cae Hir Ornamental Gardens Cardigan Bay Holiday Activity

Cae Hir is a very special Ornamental Garden not to be missed when you visit Lampeter West Wales

Filmed for BBC Gardeners World, Channel 4 Garden Party, BBC 2 Country File, S4C and many more TV and radio programmes. This is a garden with a difference, not typically British in style yet thoroughly fitting into the Welsh countryside. Nature gently steered by the gardener is largely in charge providing a haven of serenity and tranquility for visitor and wildlife alike.

Plants at Cae Hir Garden West WalesGarden of Surprises, Search out the four colour themed gardens. Look for the Bonsai Room and the (almost) natural water feature. Plus many other treasures skillfully concealed by clever planting to surprise and delight the visitor.

Wil Akkermans the architect, creator and workhorse of Cae Hir comes from a long line of Dutch Nurserymen. His love of plants and ability to develop layout and structure has been put to good use at Cae Hir. Since 1985 using only hand tools available to the average gardener, Wil has single handedly worked to develop this six acre site into a very special garden.

Don't Miss The Garden of Surprises
Cae Hir is now a mature garden but gardens are never finished and further developments are planned.
A visit to Cae Hir provides a delightful afternoon of surprises
for all lovers of gardens.

An amiable meandering account of a 'run-away-teacher from Holland's' experience as a horticulturist in Wales. We learn how this Welsh-speaking Dutchman started off with a cottage, six acres of rough pasture and a stream, and over the years managed to produce a highly successful sequence of Gardens.
