France's Best Activity Holidays
Whether it’s white water rafting, skiing or mountain biking, France has it all. And with good value for money as well as excellent standards of accommodation and food there’s no reason why the current downturn in economic fortunes should prevent you from enjoying a trip across the channel to sample some of France’s best activity holidays. With that in mind, here’s a guide to the best on offer to help you decide.
Skiing
France’s best ski resorts rank amongst the world best, with places like Val D’Isere, Tignes and the Les Trois Vallees of exceptional quality. Lift passes in the French Alps tend to be quite expensive but equipment hire, restaurants and accommodation are all well priced and shouldn’t be too much of a shock. If you’re travelling in a group then chalets are a great idea as they offer added comfort and space as well as being good value for money. Try checking out sites that specialise in ski holidays like Alpine Elements if you’re stuck for ideas or need help with booking.
Surfing
Biarritz in southern France is not just France’s best ski destination, but one of the world’s finest, easily ranking in the top five alongside California, Miami and Australia. Prices can be expensive around Biarritz but with a little research you can easily visit there on a budget, with campsites, surf hostels and affordable villas too, hotels won’t be the only option. Being a chic coastal town there is the usual assortment of pricey cafes and restaurants along the seafront, but again with a little exploring you’ll find cheaper alternatives which will be of good quality too.
Mountain Biking
One of the most physically demanding and rewarding activity holidays around, mountain biking will push you to your limit and feel you with a renewed zest for life. Chamonix, Europe’s highest mountain, gives way to the bikers as the snow melts and the skiers leave to give you a great chance for a holiday. There are guided biking tours, lessons, bike hire and mapped out trails for you to use depending on whether you want to go it alone or get the lowdown from an expert. A great idea for an activity holiday and easy on the eye with the scenery too. Well worth considering.
