The UK's best Watersports Holidays

Whatever kind of activity holiday you’re into you’ll never have to look too much further, and you’ll probably find what you’re looking for without having to go abroad. Brits are taking advantage of the expanse of coastlines more than ever with watersports on the rise and for good reason. Keeping fit is high on the agenda and watersports guarantee this as well as offering a great deal of enjoyment. So if you’re considering a watersports holiday in the UK, read on for a mini guide to the best of the best.

Surfing

The most popular water-sport in the UK is without doubt surfing. Check out Devon’s Croyde and Cornwall’s Newquay for the best on offer, or if you fancy a surf trip to Ireland then Bundoran is a great shout as it delivers frequent and good waves. Newquay becomes very overcrowded in the summer so if you’re after a quieter holiday then Croyde is definitely a better option. But wherever you go there’ll be surf shops, surf school and, hopefully, surf!

Windsurfing

Another popular water sport on UK shores and with the combination of surfing’s balance and sailing’s technique many find themselves hooked from the word go. Harder to learn than surfing so you might want to try and hone your balance on a surfboard first, but once you’ve got the knack you can ride the waves in style and it’s a great thing to try if you’re considering what to do on your activity holidays, try checking out sites like Alpine Elements if you’re stuck for ideas. Location-wise Newquay is almost certainly out of the question for windsurfing in the summer due to the incredible number of people who fill the waves each year but there are many other good surf spots around the UK such as Saunton Sands and The Witterings.

Scuba Diving

There can be some great dives had off the coast of the UK and few spots are as good as Cardigan Bay in Wales. The highlight of a dive there is the diversity of marine life which is unlike any other. You can easily see whales, sharks, turtles, Portuguese Man of War (avoid these!) and even dolphins. Dotted around the coast are plenty of small seaside villages with good hotels should you be looking to stay, and dive schools operate in the area should you be a newcomer keen to learn.
